About Us

The Writer's Circle consists of the following members:
Cecil Barnard	Cecil claims he was never born on the 25 February 1964, but that he got home with the sheep & his parents adopted him. Lives with a photographer housemate, along with two Labradors, two co-owned dachshunds, two BMW motorcycles and a Land Cruiser. His favourite number is 7 and his favourite colour changes regularly. Currently it is old ivory and deep red. He loves Tony’s fully furnished pizza on 18th street. The most recent book he has read was “Consolations in Architecture.” He quotes - “Great book. Indicates how stupid fake Tuscan developments are.”	Chris Smal	Born 22 January 1972 in “Moedersbond PTA”. Lives on his own with garden birds and feeds them the apples that he forgot to eat. His favourite number is 7, and favourite colour is green. Watches 50/50 on TV and eating Spaghetti Bolognaise, but he thinks salads are for people who believe in homeopathy. He loves waking up every morning because he has the best job in the world – touring through Africa. He tunes his worn steel-string guitar regularly. The last book he read was, “Zen and the art of Motorcycle maintenance”.
Claudia Höpfner	Born 27 June 1976 in Volksrust, Mpumalanga. Lives with her husband Herbert and Tessa - their Botswana pavement special, Milka - their HAWS dog, Muschi - Herbert’s adopted cat from Botswana (and her nightmare) and Alfons - the last fish in the aquarium – he has lived for at least 6 years and survives everything! Loves her Hubby’s home-made salad dressing. Her favourite number is 2 and her favourite colour is blue. Doesn’t watch TV and her most recently read book is “Sister Lillian’s Pregnancy and Birth Companion” – because Claudia is pregnant!	Corli Groeneveld	Born 16 October 1969 in Scottburgh. She lives with two beautiful girls, and her pets include two dogs and occasionally a man. She definitely sticks to a 4 door car so that the kids can climb in and out by themselves. Her favourite number is 7 and her favourite colour is green. She is hooked on the series “Grey's Anatomy”, loves eating St Elmo's Pizza, drinking wine and going for picnics with her two girls on the golf course, walking with the dogs and socializing. The last books she had read were “Memoirs of a Geisha”, “Psalms” and “Da Vinci Code”.
Etienne Marais	Born 13 Janaury 1964 in Germiston (the Wild East). Lives with a Great Dane, a Jack Russel and a very naughty Gray Cat in Lyttelton, Pretoria. He doesn’t do TV and enjoys Sushi, composing music and socializing loudly (not in that order). He blames George Bush for making it almost impossibly expensive to drive his 4 litre Jeep. His favourite number is 13 and his favourite colour is as black as night. The last book he read was “Little Book of Scientific Principles, Theories & Things”. He wants to retire to Bohemia, if it exists.	Fran Hepburn	Fran is our newest member. We don't know her birth date as yet. We do know that she will be joining her fiancée in Holland soon and that she will become our sole European Member.
Izelle Behr	Born 26 August 1974 in Kallie De Haas Hospitaal, Potchefstroom. Lives with her husband, two beautiful daughters and 6 fish, 2 tiger snails, 2 apple snails, 2 mystery snails, 2 placostomusses, 2 cats en 2 Weimies (the weimies are not really pets, they are the sons she will never have herself). She loves Sushi from Woolworths, and her favourite colour is black, but wonders if it actually is a colour. Her favourite day of the week is when she gets to bed, and she writes too much to still read, but the Bible gets regular attention.	Sandra Vaughn	Born 28 October 1975 in “Moedersbond PTA”. Sandra is a well-known actress and lives with her actor husband Pierre van Pletzen, along with a lively Jack Russel, Luigi. She loves horse-riding and has a beautiful horse, Don Carlos. Her favourite number is 7, and her favourite colour is yellow to see, black and blue to wear. She wishes she had more time watching TV (not just being on it), and reads scripts and plays and doesn’t seem to have time to read anything else.
