The ICCE:
The International Council for Coach Education (ICCE) is
a non-profit international organisation with the mission
of promoting coaching as an internationally accepted
profession. It seeks to enhance the quality of coaching
at every level of sport. |
The outcomes of the ICCE include:
A network of international organisations responsible
for the development of coaches in their respective
nations,
International accords on coaching issues such as
ethics, safety and knowledge/competency.
An international coaching culture that supports the
values of Olympism: integrity, honesty, fairness,
inclusion, tolerance and commitment to excellence |
Conference Theme:
The theme for this first ever continental ICCE
conference in Africa is:
Sport coaching in the 21st century - (Bridging the gap
between theory and practice)
This is an attempt to address the challenges and suggest
possible solutions to the issue of coaching as related
to science and how best coaches particularly, in Africa
can combine theory and practice to improve the
performance of their athletes. It is also geared towards
acquisition of knowledge and development of sport
coaching within depressed economies and conflict zones
in Africa. Coach Education has been a major aspect of
ICCE programs and this is the opportunity for delegates
to get an insight of the subject. |

Programme Outline:
A pre-conference Master Class for ICCE members only,
will take place after lunch on Wednesday 22 October,
2008. This will be followed by the two and a half day conference
for all delegates through plenary and parallel sessions
Thursday 23 October till lunch on Saturday, 25
October, 2008. Special specific sessions and meetings
will conclude proceedings as per scheduled on Saturday, 25 October, 2008 |

Keynote Speakers
Dr.
Istvan Balyi:
Istvan Balyi is a world renowned coaching educator and
his series on Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) and
periodisation have been published in Australia, Canada,
the United States and the United Kingdom. From 1994 he
had been the resident sport scientist of the National
Coaching Institute British Columbia at the University of
Victoria, Canada. He has worked with 16 Canadian
National Teams as high performance advisor and planning
and periodisation consultant for Major Games, including
Athletics (middle distance), Alpine Skiing, Freestyle
Skiing, Water Skiing, Mens Soccer, Mens and Womens
Water Polo, Mens and Womens Basketball, Whitewater
Kayak, and others.
Istvan is currently LTAD advisor for sportscoachUK
(National Coaching Foundation), and Sport Northern
Ireland. He worked with 19 sports in the UK on LTAD,
including England Rugby Union, England Cricket Board,
The Lawn Tennis Association, British Canoe Union,
British Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Synchronized
Swimming, British Judo and British Gymnastics.
He presently works with 17 Canadian sports to develop
LTAD models, including Athletics Canada, Basketball
Canada, Boxing Canada, Canadian Weightlifting
Association, CanoeKayak Canada, Cricket Canada, Cross
Country Canada, Curling Canada, Field Hockey Canada,
Gymnastics Canada, National Karate Association, Rowing
Canada, Rugby Canada, Sailing Canada, Speed Skating
Canada, and Swimming Canada.
Dr. Ladislav Petrovic:

Secretary General : European Network of Sport Science,
Education and Employment (ENSSEE).
Dr. Ladislav Petrovic is also involved in the training
of Coaches from a variety of African Countries including
South Africa.
Dr. Rendani Mulaudzi:
Deputy Director : TuksSport, University of Pretoria,
South Africa. He has 18 years experience in sport
management at university level tasked with the training
of Sport Science students as coaches.
