Videographer and Independent Filmmaker
Moving Images is a visual narrative with its own language and
rules. The nature of this form of story telling can be highly
technical and challenging but highly rewarding. Being involved
in video production from U-matic analog recording to the current
HD digital format gives me insight into the medium's technical
challenges, strengths and progression. Videographers are
distinguished from cinematographers in that they manage smaller
scale productions and work with video instead of film.
The advent of digital cinematography, has blurred this
distinction and electronic cameras are becoming more common on
big movie productions. All tough I enjoy to work in large
production team environments I'm more drawn to the intimacy and
hands on experience that documentary style of filmmaking offers.
As a Videographer you have to be a Jack of all trades and be
involved with every part of the process instead of being a
individualised specialist. As the demand for visual content
increase, and with buzz about "TV Everywhere" makes this a very
exiting place to be in the future.
I have worked in Broadcast, Documentaries, Corporate Promotional
Videos, Training & Demonstration Videos, Commercials, Music
Videos and websites. Having been a Media Specialist at the
University of South Africa, I have years of experience in the
development of study material for the tertiary teaching and
learning environment. As a freelance operator I've worked in the
film industry producing EPK and behind the scene material for
various International Films.
