Day 2
17 December 2005 SATURDAY
The
next morning, still in Douglas, after a very big tasty breakfast -
consisting of fruit, cereal and a full English breakfast of bacon and
eggs, which the ‘Ice-queen’ served to us - we reorganized the Jeep and
topped up what was empty and threw out what was empty. We then set of to
take a last slow cruise through Douglas to see what it looked like in
broad daylight and found the centre of town in a buzz of activity.
Locals where riding on bicycles, while some where standing beside street
stalls laughing and socializing, others were huddled in groups below
massive shady trees, but most were huddled around the seller selling
Christmas gifts. We drove past quite a number of families with their
little kids in prams who were walking alongside the long streets of
houses.
At the petrol station we managed to find a few bags of ice to keep our
drinks cold. As a I was standing in the queue, I notices who the locals
were, because they all nodded to one another in a very subtle way as
they walked into the convenience store besides the garage station.
With a few photographs taken, and feeling well rested and prepared for
another long interesting day, we headed of to Campbell.
The distance from Douglas to Campbell was approximately 30km on the
R385.
