WITH OR WITHOUT YOU

f I could choose where I can be…
I’d be the honey in your rooibos tea!
The butter on your melba toast,
the mint sauce with your Sunday roast.

In winter time I would prefer
to be your morning coffee when you stir.
Or the down duvet that covers you,
(I might just tend to smother you).
I’ll be the woollen scarf that hugs your neck -
the hollow there is just perfect!
And when its summer I can think
of a thousand ways that we could link.

But if
by chance or circumstance,
the globe was placed between us -
You would still be
the subject of my fantasy.
And I will be
your memory of a satin night,
your prospect of a pillow fight.
I’ll be the love song that you listen to,
the melody that clings to you.
I’ll be the sunlight on your golden skin,
the thunderstorm, the rain, the wind.

And thus you will find,
I’m with you
even though without.
And for me that will suffice –
until the roll of another dice.
